Coats of Arms

 

The primary Coat of Arms in this Study comes from the East of England family and was granted to Thomas Argall of London by Queen Mary around 1555 when he had become the Registrar of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.

The heraldic description is: Per fesse argent and vert, a pale counterchanged, and 3 lions’ heads erased gules. The crest on these arms is expressed as a Sphinx with wings expanded ppr.    The crest was confirmed in 1562 by Harvey.

However, there was also a separate Coat of Arms used in Cornwall, but it is not yet known to whom this was granted or by whom it was used. (Coats–of–Arms are granted to Individuals and not to families per se; so there is no authority for its continued use in an official capacity today).
